Alchemy
Chemicals Ltd. was formed in 1995, by four executives originating from marketing
roles in global-based
chemical companies.
With a strong emphasis on specialty and functional chemistry, the
business developed quickly to become a major chemical importer
and distributor, representing major producers overseas.
In 2004, the holding Company, The Alchemy Group of Companies,
was formed, and subsequently purchased the business of International
Food Agencies, (IFA), a key importer of food ingredients and additives. IFA had itself been operating since 1984.
This acquisition allowed the Company to diversify its distribution
base into the dynamic New Zealand food manufacturing business,
and presented a marketing platform for existing suppliers who also
had investments in the food ingredients sector.
Alchemy: 1. A type of
chemistry, especially from about 1100 to 1500, which
dealt with trying to find a way to change ordinary
metals into gold and with trying to find a medicine
which would cure any disease. 2. A process
so effective that it seems like magic.
